Meet Nancy – An ACCES Kenya Success Story
Your generosity doesn’t just fund education; it transforms futures.
Nancy Shimenga Khamole is a proud graduate of Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU), where she pursued a bachelor’s degree in Education Arts specializing in English Literature. Her academic journey from 2021 to 2025 was made possible through the generous support of ACCES Kenya, and for that she remains deeply grateful.
Nancy’s story is a powerful testament to what happens when generosity meets determination. Born to peasant farmers and the eldest of five children, Nancy grew up in a home rich in love but burdened by poverty. Hunger, irregular meals, and financial uncertainty were part of her daily reality. Yet, she held onto one dream: to earn a university degree and uplift her family. As the firstborn, she carries much responsibility, and her siblings look up to her for guidance, strength, and hope.
Throughout primary and secondary school, Nancy relied solely on bursaries and donations. Despite her excellent academic record, she had to postpone her university admission for a year because of financial difficulties. ACCES Kenya’s sponsorship enabled Nancy to continue her studies and graduate. That support was more than financial; it was hope restored.
University life was daunting at first. Coming from a rural background, Nancy felt out of place. But she soon realized that persistence, not circumstance, defines success. With ACCES Kenya behind her, she overcame hunger, emotional hardship, and family responsibilities to graduate with a Bachelor of Education in English and Literature from Kaimosi Friends University.
Nancy’s words to donors echo with gratitude: “I owe special gratitude to ACCES. Their support was not just financial, it was a lifeline, a source of hope and a reminder that my dreams are valid. Without ACCES, this journey would have been much heavier, and possibly impossible. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the entire ACCES team for believing in me and investing in my aspirations.”
As she begins a new chapter of her life, her dream is to mentor and counsel girls who have just completed secondary school and those in tertiary institutions. She wants them to understand that challenges should not diminish their dreams, but instead, focus on the positive, remain steadfast in their education and trust that persistence bears fruit.
Together, we can transform dreams into reality. Thank you for being part of this journey!
