Kenya: Our Global Friend
ACCES is very pleased to announce the release of their new teaching resource, titled Kenya: Our Global Friend.
Funded in part by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) through the Global Classroom Initiative program, this extensively researched and professionally produced kit has been approved by the BC ministry of Education for use in all BC schools. The kit is an integrated social studies and language arts resource for intermediate grades 5 through 7 and is available through the ministry's official resource guide.
Designed with both teachers and students in mind, Kenya: Our Global Friend includes an interactive DVD "virtual safari" containing over 350 photos with text, a teachers resource handbook of nine lessons and supportive materials, a CD of the handbook and an original read aloud novel called "Breaking Out" that chronicles the journey of a 12 year old Kenyan boy and a series of tough decisions he has to make.
A workshop facilitator's guide is available here for those who wish to introduce and promote this powerful resource to their school or group.
