CIDA: Canadian International Development Agency

ACCES has enjoyed a long and successful partnership with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), beginning in 1998 when CIDA approved a three-year project proposal from ACCES in which CIDA contributed $60,000 per year and ACCES contributed $30,000.

CIDA approved an expanded project proposal from ACCES in 2001 for which the funding from CIDA was increased to $100,000 per year for three years with ACCES contributing $50,000.

In September 2002, CIDA set out an Action Plan on Basic Education with three main goals identified in that plan:

  • access for all to a free and compulsory primary education
  • elimination of gender disparities in education
  • improving the quality of basic education

The objectives of ACCES conformed to CIDA's Action Plan, resulting in the Society continuing with financial support from CIDA. Please note, however, that CIDA does not support the ACCES scholarship program.

CIDA has also provided funding for youth interns to travel to Kenya and work with the local staff in Kakamega, resulting in one of our current board members, as well as numerous innovative and successful ideas, programs and studies.

ACCES is currently in the final stages of another three year project funded by CIDA for nearly $500,000 over three years, ending in March 2010.

Because CIDA provides matching fund grants, every dollar you donate to ACCES for a CIDA Project component of the work ACCES is doing, is matched 2 to 1. What an excellent way to multiply your donation!
